Buried under the media hoopla and political maneuvering, but still fairly evident, is how Democrats behave as grown-ups. Yes, we have our memes and 'weird' tagging, but by and large, we're the party that trusts women to make their own decisions regarding bodily autonomy, are justifiably shocked at displays of toxic masculinity, and embrace the full range of human emotion: joy, pain, humor, vulnerability. And there's an undercurrent of "serious problems require serious people" which is why Kamala's (non) response to Bash's inane 'when did you become Black' question was so gratifying. Harris was essentially saying, "Really, CNN? You all badgered me for weeks when all you wanted was my response to something idiotic my opponent said? GTFOH! We've got serious work to do and you're wasting my, and everybody's, time.
“There was a justified controversy over the convention not featuring any Palestinian-American speakers…”
With all due respect, Paul, the trust simply isn’t there. Between their failure to unequivocally condemn October 7 and the juvenile name-calling, the pro-Palestine protest movement brought this on themselves.
Condemn Israel's genocide and the Democratic party for supplying them with the weapons they use to murder innocent people, rape prisoners to death, steal, oppress and lie. Condemn the fact that while Israel was being attacked, it slaughtered its own people under the Hannibal directive. That it allowed the attack to happen due to the Pegasus software running on Palestinian cellphones that gave them all the information that an attack was coming and did nothing. That they intentionally placed a rave exact where the attack was going to happen while being told not to by their top military commanders. That they invented stories of rape and mutilation during the attack instead of helping people, which is a pattern of behavior going back to even before Israel was founded.
Condemn the fact that Israel killed more people in the year leading up to Oct 7th and that they killed hundreds the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that. Condemn the fact that thanks to the full support of America, Israel has managed to commit virtually every war crime that exists with full immunity.
This isn’t a matter of my view or yours or condemning anything or any construction that anyone wants to put on this or anything else. Establishing trust is important, and the pro-Palestinian movement hasn’t established it outside of their own ambit.
Everything you say here about the Republican commitment to destroying leftism is correct. But I feel like the DNC is passively just as committed to crushing their progressive members and despite the vibes I keep hearing about, it doesn't bring me any joy.
If Harris loses Michigan she will have only herself to blame, can she win the election without it?
My vote gets flushed by the electoral college so I don't have to vote for ongoing genocide and close my eyes, ears and heart to the nothing changing the DNC is selling.
But it's going to be difficult for me to forget all the attacks I've received for daring to expect a candidate to create a platform that reflects the wishes of the majority of her voters. And frankly even if that weren't so (but it is) I would never vote to ignore the humanitarian catastrophe we're continuing to finance and arm.
"Democrats are extra committed to political pragmatism! Also, let's freak out about Harrison Butker giving a speech about motherhood while killing mothers in Palestine!"

Hey can you do me a real quick favour?

I'll just wait right here.

Hey look! Someone can't do what they criticized someone else for!
As someone who's never ever met a hypocritical American liberal before, I'm just so absolutely super shocked over here I tell you what.

It moved to the middle. Republicans have moved the U.S. so far to the right that the left is now the middle.
The left was always center right.
And it's not the right forcing them to be pro-war, pro-genocide, pro-empire, and anti-free speech. They're choosing to do that.
