I'm grateful for the (is it hundreds by now?) Republicans and the military/defense leaders who have publicly warned us about the perils we face in this election. It would be even more impactful if they all stood with Harris IRL, at one time, on the Ellipse as she makes her closing case.

Waldman:

Absolutely.

but not to distract from that, Trump not elected is not Trump gone. Trumpism will still be with us, already dominant in some states and among the Republican Party as elected, and as believed by "47%" of voters [your number].

and, to be honest, at least a little bit in our own hearts and "normal" government arrogance.

well, another columnist reminds me that most voters are too far away from WWII that they don't really know what "fascist" means, so I think that Dems need to point out clearly the dangers Trump threatens. Abortion ban, insurrection, rule by gangland force....in other words, the exact opposite of the "freedom" he claims we have lost, the loss of their incomes to the mismanaged economy and the rule of the rich.... election theft... it's all out there, and so clear it is hard for me to imagine anyone voting for him or treating this election as if it was ho hum just another partisan name-calling . it's not what we say about him that's scary. it's what he says about him that is terrifying.

It boils down to racism. The 47% do not, will not, vote for an African American Woman. Period.

And they will vote. They feel threatened and cornered with a fear of the browning of America. Coupled with a desire for women to stay under their boot. Disempower women, minorities and gays makes them feel stronger and in control.

Even if Harris wins, this dynamic is not going away anytime soon.

Inflation and any other complaint about economics has never been more that an excuse to hide the racism, the hate, the love of violence and the misogyny of EVERY SINGLE TRUMP SUPPORTER. Every one. Even among the billionaire paymasters.

I think it would be fair to say that the vast majority of voters know nothing about how the economy works. They only know whether they think they "are better off than they were four years ago."....or what the politicians they like for other reasons tell them to think.
