Let's not give the Trump regime credit for deterring immigration when most of the work on the southern border was done by Biden before he left office. And let's not give the Trump regime credit for deterring immigration when they have created an atmosphere in which Canadians will not come here, are cancelling vacations and are selling second homes. And let's not give the Trump regime credit for deterring immigration when they are stopping European scholars and scientists from returning to jobs in the US or from attending conferences because they found some text on a cell phone that King Donnie doesn't like.
The Trump regime is a disaster that is getting more disastrous by the day. We may never recover from the damage he is doing.
The goal of the current administration is to 'Protect and increase concentrations of wealth and power.' Reducing the efficiency of the IRS along with lower top tax rates are part of that goal. Destroying government services to all but the wealthy is another part. Destroying existing world alliances and image is intended to make the US a global villain. Putin chose his viceroy well.
Sad but true. Sometimes it takes an anvil up side the head for voters to realize the stupid mistake they made. The unfortunate part of this equation is the rest of us suffer right along with them.
It will only get worse because Trump not only has no idea what he's doing, not only is afflicted with the magical thinking of a narcissist and not only can't imagine anyone will fight back when he grabs them by the tariff, but as everything he does increasingly does the opposite of what he imagines and people start blaming him, he who can't accept the tiniest suggest that he's wrong, then he will only double and triple and quadruple down because is and always has been a loser, the type of guy casinos send a limo for.
i am very tired of updating my profile every time i comment. so i probably won't comment any more. i don't expect to be missed, but i wonder how many other people stop trying to comment, or read, here because they get fed up with updating their profile.
i hope i didn't say anything that made you think i expected the people who got us into this will get us out of this. i just said i don't see anyone else who will either.
Many scholars and thought leaders are writing to address the urgent question of how the history of our democratic experiment led to the present crisis There are identified trends in social media, public education as well as the nefarious practices in politics that have undermined capacity in our communities for thoughtful, fact-based discourse. We have way too many developmentally attenuated lizard brains as a result of decades of corrosive dynamics. We appear to be left sifting the dregs of malicious intent coupled with stunning arrogance. We have to say “NO!” As Cory Booker is currently urging on the senate floor we must make some “good trouble.” Find courage as individuals in community to take creative steps to bring a halt to this disintegration of our beloved and imperfect nation. Here we are; let’s go!
Corey Booker has a long history of paying lip service and PR stunts, but like many Senate Dems he doesn't do much for working people. I'll agree he talks a good game for 25 hours and 4 minutes, but it is not lost on me that his speech was just words. He didn't block a bill or nomination. He is up for re election in 2026 which did put it all in context for me. Don't forget the Democratic Party's leadership had a big hand in getting us here. Maybe it's time for the current leaders to step aside.
i did not mean we needed to stay with the people that brung us here. Just that I don't see anyone else who can get us out. i am giving up this thread/substack because it makes me rewrite my profile every time i comment then puts me in a loop that deletes my comment if ican't figure a way out. have fun.
i see democrats worrying about their "message." but without actual facts that matter, messages get stale. maybe the politicians are right, since facts don't seem to matter to at least a big part of the electorate, and maybe the "historical forces" are too strong for Democrat policies to alter. but my direct comtacts with Democrat politicians has left me unimpressed with their intelligence or honesty. Note, I am far less impressed with R politicians who seem to me to be either completely insane or completely sold out to the dream of a thousand year Reich of rule by the very rich.
Also note: using "Democrat policies" instead of "Democratic policies" has been criticized by some as an insult. I think that is ridiculous, but in any case I mean no disprespect by that usage.. I do mean disrespect by my observatiosn of Democrat politicians I have actually talked to, as well as what they say and do in Congress.

it takes more than an anvil. there are still people in Russia who think Stalin was a great leader.
and people in U.S. who think Hitler "had some good ideas."

And the type of guy who bankrupts a casino when he is in charge
"Apart from deterring immigration ..."
That's like giving Hitler credit for at least solving the Jewish question.
"Shambolic chaos" aptly captures the flavor of this benighted regime.
May I share this piece and another on the Trillion Dollar lie you posted recently on my blog The Flensburg Files? Both are great but sobering pieces.

If only they get to vote and their votes count.

yes. but i don't see any prospective leaders who will do better.
I don't see how the people that got us into this will get us out this. Seems like magical thinking, js
