I just had to reproduce this here. I just had to. Paul, thank you.

"Donald Trump was always, and always will be, the worst of us. Had we searched every city and hamlet throughout the land and tried to find a more contemptible human being to elevate to the position of ultimate power, we could barely have done worse. We could not have found someone more dishonest, more corrupt, more venal, more petty, more narcissistic, more juvenile, more ignorant, more misogynistic, more bigoted, more despicable in every one of his thoughts and utterances, a bully and a sexual predator and a con man and everything any sane person would shudder at the thought their children might grow up to be. "

Nailed. I had run out of adjectives to describe the horrors observed and those experienced. I am grateful that someone else could pick up that baton.

And now we pray and wait.

you may have found a way to keep me from reading your very good essays. elaborate sign-in procedures are beyond my capabilities. i clicked on the box and it led me into a maze i could not sort out. so i just ignored it and that worked...for now?

that said, if this goes through, once again i need to agree with you wholeheartedly. and then point out the next step.

those 80 million Trumpists are mostly not defective human beings. they are just human beings with all the defects thereunto appertaining. we need to realize that our civilization is failing them. and then we need to find a way to fix that...without falling into the trap that they have. and that means that as best we can we need to stop hating on them. i don't expect a magic solutions.

historians a hundred years from now will not be asking how we let Trump happen...we have known the answer since ancient Greeks invented democracy. and the Framers tried to write a Constitution that would help prevent it. But no Constitution can survive the ignorance of the people and the bad faith of their leaders. Trump may have opened a box we cannot close again, whether Trump wins or not.
